Beau

Dog's Name:  Beau

Media:  Machine Appliqué; Hand embroidery

Other info:  Stone Ridge Beauregard came into our lives two years ago when he was two-and-a-half years old. At the time, we thought we wanted a puppy but ended up with a carefree, loving, beautiful, adult Airedale named Beau. Beau is a distant cousin to our other Airedale, Bonnie.

We're Beau's third home. His first family moved to England and because of the quarantine restrictions, didn't take him with them. He was returned to the breeder who placed him with another family who didn't like the fact that he has allergies and returned him once more. We're very fortunate that they didn't want him, because he then came to live with us. On July 4, 1997, he flew on an aireplane to Portland, Oregon all the way from Chicago, Illinois. We took him sight-unseen because we trusted his breeder when she told us he was a wonderful dog who needed a forever home. She was right, he is wonderful.

Beau has fit perfectly into our family. He gets along well with his older cousin, Bonnie, and has even learned not to chase Sugar the cat (most of the time). Beau is a happy-go-lucky fellow. He has had only a few problems with his allergies since he's been with us. He is very sweet and affectionate and active. He loves to go for walks and chase his Kong toy. That's why I show him with his leash and toys on the quilt square.

Beau's also a very beautiful dog, even with his now somewhat tattered ear. He had an unfortunate rendezvous (non-amorous) with another dog. They were playing and as Airedales will do, got a little too rough and tumble. Beau came out of the scuffle minus the bottom portion of his left ear (see quilt square). He has recovered from the injury and has nearly forgotten his embarrassment about being "beat up by a female". His spirits were heartened by all the attention and condolences he received during his recovery from other Airedales whose owners belong to the Internet Airedale lists. He now thinks the tattered ear gives him more character. As though an Airedale would ever need to have more character. They hold the patent on that, don't they? That's why we love them so much.
