IN THE BEGINNING . . .

. . . WAS AN EMAIL FROM MANTA DIVE SHOP

On January 14, 2012, we plan to leave (cold, dreary, stormy) Chicago
for a week in sunny, warm Barbados.

For those of you who are not familiar, Barbados is an island country,
only 20 x 14 miles in size, situated in the Lesser Antilles,
northeast of Trinidad and Tobago.
Barbados is outside the principal hurricane belt,
so we should be able to count on great weather.

We will be guests of the Coconut Court Beach Hotal,
a little ways from Bridgetown,
Barbados' most populous Barbados beach city.
This beachside resort offers lounges at the pool and on the beach,
a gift shop, nail and massage salon, and much more.
Our rooms are standard ocean view; for those who wish to upgrade,
there is a modest up-charge
based on what accommodation you choose.

Barbados Blue Dive Shop, which boasts a staff that includes
two marine biologists and over 27 years
of combined marine conservation & restoration,
will guide our dives in Barbados.
TEAM MANTA will undoubtedly be in good hands!

And if there's not
enough water in the
ocean for them,
there is always
the pool . . .

Neal called at 6 a.m. Saturday; they were awaiting takeoff any minute.
So I signed in to US AIRWAYS's website
to follow the flight to Charlotte, North Carolina,
and then the second flight to Barbados,
where they arrived at 3:15 p.m. local time
(AST - Atlantic Standard Time).

And now we wait
for pictures,
IF AND WHEN
there is an
internet connection
