The meeting with the dogs went fine. She is stinky, of course, but does love to be held. She is acting quite shy thus far. She has been through a lot in the past couple of days. Harley did the playbow at her already. I told him he needed to slow down a bit with her.

But look at that face. She has a LOT of mats. Once those are gone, she is going to be gorgeous!

Later that evening: I cut out LOTS of mats . . .

. . . and then Mars'd it a bit. She let me and seemed to enjoy it. I will never be a hairdresser but it has to be more comfortable for her. I think they will need to almost shave her down. But we will see. I'll ask Brenda to work her magic. I put some beds in places she has chosen for hidey holes--one under the computer desk, one under the desk in the dining room and one behind one of the end tables in the living room. Of course, Molly has to lie in ALL of them and she would NEVER do that otherwise.

She does need to wear a diaper. She is taking some meds for a UTI and she is leaving little spots about. I had one on her but she would not eat until I took it off.

Steve says he can tell a difference in Harley already. He is calmer than he has been for a while - he really does just need a job! The others have jobs - Soph being the alpha and keeper of order. Molly's job is to be cute and play with kids (SHE LOVES KIDS) and Harley - well, his is helping the shy dogs!

She is a huggy bear. I think Sallee is the three-year-old. She has had puppies but her teeth look pretty darned good.

She did just walk out to the kitchen and get a drink with no one there. She seems to prefer the company of humans over dogs actually. You can see if you agree. Molly growls when she comes hear the food dish, so I am having to keep Molly in line - stinker that she is.

I had a bath and combout scheduled for Molly on Wednesday and called to substitute Sallee. The groomer said she can do both. Sallee has LOTS of mats and she could need to be shaved down. But her face will be adorable - she has one of those squared off muzzles.

She does love to be held - she will place her face on your shoulder. She does not like to come out of her crate though. She would stay in a hidey hole. I am putting a dog bed in a couple of those tonight for her to wander around and hide in. She had to be in the bathroom with me this AM when I was getting ready. She is not an alpha dog - in fact Molly was trying to boss her around, which she NEVER does. She did NOT submissive roll for her either. So we will see if it is Molly that has changed or if this pup is really an Omega dog.

19 December:

Just dropped her at the groomer, who says she will have to shave the ears - LOTS of mats on them - but thinks she won't have to shave her totally. We shall see.

She does have a round bump behind her left ear - the groomer found it. I will feel it this evening. I suppose she has had it a while so will wait until we get back from hristmas to take her to the vet for it.

I cannot wait to see her face!

Here she is after her grooming. She was very good, of course. She is getting a little more confident -I lifted her to the mirror so she could see how pretty she is. Now that probably means nothing to her but she is taking baby steps!

TRACY HABENICHT:

It was nice seeing Sallee again. She overnighted at my house before going to Wisconsin, and Wolfie (my foster dog who is now being fostered by Pat in Wisconsin), developed a crush on Sallee. It was so cute.

MARY BRABENDER:

What a wonderful treat! Company for everyone over the holiday. What a cutie she is. And some of the issues sound like RosieVi although many changes have been happening in the last months . . . boy, will these dynamics be fun. I am so glad Sallee can come to your house. What a fun and safe place to be for the little one. Lots of pictures are ahead I can tell. We all look forward to seeing them.

On 20 December, Pam writes:

Little one is better than she was. It is like she is feeling freedom with the removal of that dirty hair. She & Molly bonded on their trip to the groomer also. Perhaps Molly communicated to her that this is fun - I don't know. Molly is allowed to run loose after the grooming session. The store has ledges all around at the storefront window. So she gets to see people walking past and they get to see her (which, to them is a treat - Molly says). But they are giving each other nose kisses now. Sallee's tail remains in a firm "Down Stay", but one day it will come up'

The entire pack comes to her defense when I give her the morning meds (you will need to give her only one dose on Saturday; then all the pills will be gone). It usually takes a couple of tries . . . she is very good at pretending she swallowed it, then promptly spits it out. They stand very close while I am giving the pills to her and check her over afterwards to ensure that I did not injure her.

She also ate toast this AM. She has learned to go up the three steps from the back door into the kitchen. She is really a gorgeous girl! Her eyes are HUGE!

She is learning to trust me a bit; follows me around from room to room. She still goes in the hidey holes but wants to be in the same room anyway. That is a step forward. There is great hope for this little one!
