BOB IN IOWA

APRIL 2018

(Due to my not being able to type for a week and that most of the information about Bob & Katie was on FaceBook,
this story may become a bit disjointed. I hope you will bear with me.
MY THANKS TO MARILYN ROYLE, BILL SCHUMACHER & MELANIE OLEKSA FOR THEIR HELP.
All photos following were taken at the Oleksa Foster Home.)

On 23 April, Bill writes:

Wally (f/k/a Bob) is a lovely Cairn boy
who was rescued from a kill shelter in the Los Angeles area.
He was pulled by one of our "LA Angels" and
was boarded until I could fly out to Los Angeles on 12 April to pick him up.
A lovely woman by the name of Catherine Turley picked up Wally and
drove the nearly two-hour trip to LAX for us,
a task she would once again take on a week later to deliver Katy,
who was rescued at the same time.

Wally was extremely fearful, avoiding human contact,
cowering in the rear of his kennel, and shaking whenever he was handled.
He was not, however, at all aggressive with humans.
Wally spent a number of days at a vet office/boarding facility
until I was able to get him flown to Chicago.

Ph

The following Sunday, my housemate and I packed up Wally
and headed for the Davenport, Iowa area where we were met
by Melanie Oleksa and her husband.
The Oleksa family agreed to foster Wally and
give him the love and attention he so desperately needed.

From cowering inside a crate,
to the photos you see here,
he has begun a remarkable
transformation toward being
a loving and accepted
member of a family unit.

He's getting along fine with their other dogs
and loves hanging out with them, or snoozing on the couch
or chair alongside his new people. Wally has a way to go
before he's ready for his forever home,
but he is making great strides and gains confidence and trust every day.

Again, thanks to Melanie Oleksa and her family for their patience
and for opening their home and their hearts to this wonderful little guy."

Melanie writes:

I have Bob; however we changed his name. No one liked the name,
he didn't know the name, so we are calling him Wally.
It just fits his shy, goofy personality.

Ph

He is doing well. He is still very skittish, but gets a little braver each day.
He walks nicely on a leash, has not had any accidents in the house,
and gets along well with my other dogs.
