ZEKE, BELLE
& MAGGIE WOLF

Over there! Did you see 'em? Squirrels!!
Let's go get 'em!

C'mon! Hurry up, Belle!
Those squirrels are getting away!

Look what we brought home for you, Lynn!
Bears are even better than squirrels!

Chasing squirrels and catching bears can be sooooo tiring.

Isabelle ("Belle" to her friends) & Zeke are rescued Greyhounds, the Canine Companions of Lynn (@RB), who calls them "The Gangly Greyhounds". They live in Quebec Province, Canada and, surprisingly, don't mind the cold! Lynn, Belle, & Zeke are members of CANINE LIST, which is where Misha, April & Cari met them.

Both Zeke & Belle were adopted on 8 December 1994; they last raced at Hinsdale Race Track in New Hampshire. Although Zeke was well-treated during his racing career, Belle did not fare so well. However, that is all behind them now as they enjoy "the good life" with Lynn. They already have her trained to let them out whenever they run to the door with their bears -- that signals a potty break!

In October 1998, Linda wrote: I don't know if you remember that I have had problems with Belle wetting the floor ever since I got her four years ago. The last straw came in September when she got up at 2 a.m. and peed on the floor after having been let out at ten that night and of course, she wouldn't go then (story of her life!). One year prior to that I had already written someone I know in GH rescue who rehabilitates dogs with problems and she had said she would take Belle. So finally, on Sept 25th this year, I flew her out to St Paul, Minnesota to Robin. She is going to stay there and be part of Robin's family and I have already heard that she has bonded very well with Robin's 16-year-old daughter. I felt guilty about giving her up, but I knew that it was best for both of us.

Now I have another GH, Maggie, who is just wonderful. She is only three and she is an adorable black and white little lady who is just loaded with personality and panache. I got her on Sunday from GH Placement in New Hampshire.

Lynn is very involved in Greyhound Rescue; for more information, please visit the Adopt-A-Greyhound of Central Canada pages. Perhaps you, too, will "Let a Greyhound Race Into Your Heart!"

On 24 March 1999, Lynn writes: I brought Maggie home on 25 October 1998 from Greyhound Placement in New Hampshire; she had retired from racing on on the 14th of that month. She was three years old in October, but I don't know her exact birthdate.

February 1999 - Love the sun!

She was really nutty when she arrived, stealing things and taking them into her crate. I even found an old broken watch, which I had left on my desk, in there! It was totally unharmed. On the other hand, she chewed up one of my nice turquoise earrings, which she had stolen off my night table! Fortunately, a good friend gave me a similiar pair for my birthday, not even knowing of the destruction of one of the pair I had. Talk about synchronicity!

True to his benevolent and bountiful nature, Zeke let Maggie walk all over him. She would steal his bear (!), take over his bed (he is too big to fit comfortably in her crate), and take his other toys. But she won't play with him like Belle did, and I think he misses that. I try to make up for it by paying a little extra attention to him. Both dogs get massages nearly every night! Wish I could say the same for myself!

Now she has calmed down. She sleeps most of the time, loving to curl up in whatever patch of sunlight comes into the house in winter. One of her favorite afternoon places is my study, as you see in the picture with all the books and the dark blue rug on the floor.

In fact, Zeke has always liked to be in there with me, too.

On 25 April 2003, I received the following e-mail:

Dear friends of Lynn Wolf,

It is with deep sadness that I am writing to tell you about the unexpected death of Lynn, at her home, on April 13, 2003. The cause of death was attributed to a heart attack.

A lovely memorial service was held 22 April, Earth Day, at Bishop's University Chapel. Many colleagues, friends & students came to honor Lynn, a truly dedicated teacher, a woman of many diversified interests and a fine & loving human being.

For the time being Zeke & Maggie are faring very well at Allison Bennett's.
