Please Welcome The Tennessee 11 and The Missouri 6 (of 2007)

That's right, we have SEVENTEEN new mill dogs in CRUSA as of this weekend for a total of TWENTY THREE (23) dogs so far for 2007.

Scott & Greg braved the bad weather in Missouri and got five of our six Missouri mill survivors from Dr. Tolliver to Illinois, where they will be fostered and their rehabilitation will begin. The sixth mill survivor is being fostered in the St. Louis area. MANY THANKS TO SCOTT & GREG (and Commander Lewis who has once again planned a successful rescue mission.

While this transport was going on, BJ went to get ELEVEN mill survivors being released in Tennessee by the same mill that released the Tennessee 12 last year, so we now have 11 dogs in the Tennesee-Kentucky area, a number of which need foster homes. If you know of someone who can foster in Tennessee or Kentucky, please let Anne Gregory Cole know ASAP. Anne is our new Foster Homes Director for the Southeast Region. She can be reached HERE.

I'm a new foster mom to the Cairn group and one of The Frosty Paws Express foster moms in Missouri. I have Kaitlin, a five-year-old female. She is sweet as can be and just a love so far!

Kaitlin (Katie) came from a breeding facility; she is a wonderful & special little girl. She likes to be in your lap, loves to chew her pressed rawhide and rides great in the car. Housebreaking is in the works but she appears to be a fast learner and her foster brothers are showing her how it's done. Katie is learning to walk on her leash which after one day went really well. She was at the door with her foster brothers ready for her halter & her walk. She gets a little shy but if allowed to sniff your hand wants to be petted and will snuggle in your lap.

Katie is very interested in learning about the outside world, so she needs to be securely monitored at the door. Katie is very pretty and although her coat was quite matted, the first night she let her new foster mom bathe, blow dry, and try to brush her. We did decide the kindest thing was to let a groomer shave her and start growing that beautiful coat again, which is in the works. She will be a wonderful addition to a family that has lot of love to give her.

Katie has a wonderful personality. A real snuggle bug. I had to try and get her to put her harness on only once today. Then I thought, fine, I will take my boys out first and come back and get her. Sure enough, she was waiting at the door to have her harness put on with the boys so the three of us went.

Pooped outside again! Two lucky flukes; I will take them. She is peeing in the house but I weigh crating for longer periods against a diaper and running with the pack, and opt for the diaper. It had been dry all but one time today. I try to crate when she cannot be supervised and at night only so she can feel like a pet as much as she can. For my sanity, it means I must diaper . . . with no doggie door here, it keeps me sane.
