Tiger Spice overnighted with us on Monday and was just delightful. Shy, but really not too skittish. Very sweet and wants to sit on a lap.

We've renamed him Woody. He's up-to-date on his vetting, but needs to be neutered and desperately needs a dental. Dr. Dodd at Gateway Veterinary Clinic said that he has one of the worst mouths she's ever seen. Many teeth are missing; many more need to be removed.

Ph

He's now with Marla Lunt who runs a dog day care center. Woody will be playing by day and overnighting at the day care center every evening, along with a rescue Aussie that came up on the same transport (there were over 50 dogs on this transport).

Ph

His vet epenses are already well over $200 and we haven't even done the neuter or dental, so this will be an expensive dog when it's all said and done.

Here are pictures of Woody
taken by Marla Lunt at the
day care center yesterday.

On 6 January, Shell writes:

Like most dogs that we've acquired from auction (Woody was originally acquired from a Missouri auction), Woody came with registration papers (ACA = American Canine Association) and the "breeder's" name was listed on the paperwork. I did a bit of "googling" and found out some interesting information about the breeder that gives a glimpse into what Woody's past might have been like.

In 2002, the American Kennel Club suspended the breeder's AKC privileges for two years. But more telling was the results of a 2008 kennel inspection by the USDA (the regulatory agency that inspects kennels). Here are some of the things noted on the inspectors report from April 2008 (and I quote):

*  Excessive amount of feces in the primary enclosure and feces & hair in water containers;

*  One expired dog in primary enclosure, risking contamination;

*  In an outdoor facility, there are four adult dogs in one hutch that does not provide sufficient space;

*  Adult Cairn has hair loss and healing head injury;

*  Four adult Chihuahuas in one enclosure and one is expired.

At the time of the inspection, there were 124 adults dogs and 28 puppies at the facility. The kennel was given two weeks to make corrections (which they did) and obviously, they are still in operation today. These are just a few of the infractions. Other notes made by the inspector talked about the dog drinking water with green organic matter . . . and water receptacles made of PVC pipe

Woody is a lucky dog to have escaped these conditions.
