Thursday, 29 September, 9:30 a.m.

Didn't hear a thing all night -
not only are these sliders hurricane-resistant;
they soundproof the house (well, up to a point; we can still - somewhat -
hear fireworks and - sometimes - thunder).
Anyway, had a good late sleep. Woke up to . . . no rain.
Wind is still high, but that dries everything out, so I'm not complaining.

Temps have fallen, too,
which feels nice.
I put on the heat,
just one degree,
to take the chill off.

Which means we'll soon
be seeing this . . .

HALF

Damage assessment:
No extra water in the pool nor is the dogs' potty pen flooded.
Believe me, we've had worse!
A few of the bamboo stalks in the back yard grove have been broken;
the two in the front that were broken were dead ones anyway. . .

HURRICANE

At the rate bamboo grows (and 'walks'),
the loss of a few stalks is no big deal. LOTS of bamboo leaves all over the yard.

Two pots with top-heavy False Agave plants went over . . .

HURRICANE

. . . but other than the
solar light &
the asparagus fern
that were damaged,
no worries.

The screen house,
which was of
high concern,
has come thru unscathed.

HURRICANE

We are STILL under flood warning, as the rain that fell in the northeast counties
(two feet in as many hours!) will, eventually,
find its way into our area on the way to the Gulf,
but I'm not concerned about that at all.
At least we aren't in an area that was hit (not surprisingly!) by Gulf surges.

Dogs went out as per usual, since there wasn't any rain
to use as an excuse not to do so.

I went out thru the unbarricaded office slider, to take some pics . . .
didn't seen any damage anywhere else, either.
It's been quiet, tho; many people must've left
'cause I don't see/hear cars driving on Jennifer Terrace.

Our big decision this a.m. was whether to put out the garbage;
Neal didn't want to remove the garage door bar yet,
and I'm not about to roll that thing thru the house,
so I guess we'll wait 'til next week. I've not heard
a mail truck or garbage truck in the past two days,
so maybe both services have been suspended.
I did see a FedEx truck on Tuesday.
(It's like a ghost town in Tarpon Woods . . .
just the way I like it '-)

Library is still closed,
as are the Pinellas County schools
(that are being used as shelters),
Tampa Airport & DisneyWorld.

Mandatory evacuation
has been suspended
(whew! we're
no longer illegal!).

I'm sure Lee
(yard maintenance) won't
be here tomorrow,
as the yard is too wet
to run a lawnmower over.

We lost electricty for
a few seconds here and there,
but NOTHING like this . . .

HURRICANE

And THAT's the news from Lake . . . Tarpon
(she says in her best - albeit not very good) Garrison Keillor voice.

Oh, and now comes the best part . . . putting it all back together.
Neal has decided -rightly - that as long as all the furniture
is off the deck, he may as well power wash the deck & the screen house
(the screens are green with year-round pollen;
I'd been hoping that the wind & rain would clean them off,
but no such luck.

The sun has come out in full force; guess I' better bring out the plants
if I want blooms at Christmas time.
