Ah yes . . . the house hunting was an interesting & exhilarating experience at first - I won't say what it was by the end but the words obsessive & compulsive do enter the equation. Fortunately, in the final stages, my daughter, Georgia, was able, thanks to the financial generosity of the BBC, to join us for two weeks and be the MOST FANTASTIC support to all of us. It was a great visit and a time I'll cherish the memory of for always.

The end of the house hunting trail . . . . . . hahahahahahaha.

As anyone who's ever bought property in England will know . . . NOT. Suffice to say that although we didn't have anywhere to sell and the people selling the house weren't buying another one it took . . . until the END OF AUGUST before the sale was finally completed. Those months covered nerve-wracking communications with mortgage companies, mortgage brokers, solicitors, surveyors . . . the list goes on.

In the meantime, Harry, Pamela & I tackled the mammoth task of sorting out & clearing 46 years worth of collecting, hoarding & plain old living . . . well, we did an OK job which continues: as I write Harry is upstairs in the new house sorting through boxes of books . . . "keep, keep, sell, sell, keep, sell" and so on.

Summer 2006 finally rolled around and the call of Cornwall, sun, sea & surf was too much . . . we headed south & west and took a holiday from THE MOVE. Well, mostly: there were the three carloads of stuff I'd driven down to see us through the summer season of the Wadebridge Football Club's Monday afternoon car boot sales.

Finally the summer was over and the house was finally bought. Time to pack up for the winter. We said goodbye to the cottage, the beach, the surf & the sun at Polzeath.

All that remained was to return to London, organise the 'minor' building works to the house and move. What could be simpler?

Well, here are the before house pictures:
