Lily Belle. The other little dog came from the same household
and was taken in by a Chihuahua Rescue

On Sunday, 13 October,
I was contacted by a member of
ILLINOIS ANIMAL RESCUE, INC.,
a coalition of rescuers, transporters,
foster homes, vets, humane societies,
investigators & shelters
 that advocates for and saves
homeless animals throughout
the state of Illinois.

Every week, IARI pulls animals
from rural kill shelters in
downstate Illinois
and brings them back to the
Chicagoland area,
stopping along the way to
drop off animals at
shelters & rescue groups.

Skippy & Molly wait to meet Lily Belle

There was a little nine-year-old female Cairn
in the Centralia, Illinois animal control that desperately needed saving.
This was a slow week with only 30 dogs & cats on the day's transport.
Luckily, we have a foster home ready and willing to help,
so Lily Belle was able to hitch a ride.

Illinois Animal Rescue van arrives

IARI driver, Dave, met Jim & me at the Animal House Shelter in Huntley,
as Animal House was taking in many of the dogs and volunteers
from different rescue groups were picking up the others.

Lots of different rescue groups come to get their dogs

Lily Belle came out of the van a little shy & skittish,
but she is an absolute sweetheart. We know little about her:

And here comes Lily Belle

She was surrendered to Centralia Animal Control by her owners
and we suspect that she night have been a brood bitch.
She is intact and although her previous owners
had her up-to-date on rabies & DHPP,
her mouth is in horrible condition and she has mammary tumors.
She walks fairly well on a leash, but she "pancakes"
when one bends down to pick her up.

Ph

On 17 October, Lily Belle
will be spayed, have her
mammary tumors removed
and hopefully have a dental, too.

Geneva Animal Care Clinic
is very rescue-friendly
and vets many of our Illinois dogs.
However, the estimate for
Lily Belle's vetting
is over $400,
so we hope the CRUSA family
will make a donation
towards her care.

Dave says goodbye to Lily Belle . . .

. . . and another man steps in to take Dave's place
