On 6 January, Jackie writes:

The adrenaline has subsided, along with my sense of humour at the situation.
I would like to take a shower, wash my hair, clean my teeth
and visit the loo without auditioning for Cirque du Soleil . . .

I have to keep my leg suspended, not bear weight on left arm,
sit up, slide across a gap to a wheelchair that's lower than the bed
at its lowest and still my right foot can't touch the ground.

Once I reach the chair, my skin sticks to the plastic as I try to shuffle
my bottom across the seat and keep my leg on the bed.
Then I have to do it all in reverse order.

Just been told I'm next on list for op.

Later in the day, Jackie writes:

I'm back in the land of the living now;
thank you for all your good wishes.

I had a SIX-HOUR op to put plate in my wrist and arm
and FIVE HOURS in recovery. Then back on the ward;
my thumb was going blue so had to get some strap taken off,
but it's fine now. [Emphasis mine - ad.]

SUE FORRESTER
Lots of top quality Aussie Healing Zen for you, Jac.

PH

Feel like I've gone
five rounds with Mike Tyson.
This is my leg for
three months;
wish I had the healing
speed of a dog.

Later that morning:

Just had physio lady
to see me and get me
standing up and walking
with a gutter frame.

I can go home tomorrow
with some equipment
to help me around the house
and SIL Ann will help me
get washed and dressed
in the morning
when she finishes work.
They'll do the shopping as well.

GR

JACKIE IKE:
So happy to hear from you!!Gosh, what an awful thing to happen to anyone,
but I'm glad you are back and the ops have gone well.
Now just rest and heal and I feel sure a lot of rehab in your future.

Even better news:
They had me standing and
walking with a special frame.
They reckon my yoga and
dancing gives me good muscles
and balance; I did so well I can
perhaps go home tomorrow
with some equipment
to assist me.

I have little exercises to do -
five minutes every hour:
wriggle fingers, toes,
bend wrist and knee.

A gutter frame walker

I'm out of bed sitting in a chair. They try to get you up
and mobile ASAP to stop stiffness and arthritis setting in.
[Also to prevent pneumonia developing in your lungs. - ad]

Don't be overdoing it; rest as much as possible . . .
you're not 10' tall and bulletproof

GR

ANDREA DENNINGER:
To amuse Jackie, I sent her this YouTube video: A Scottish Christmas Tree Salesperson.
If you find it as amusing as Jackie & I did, there are many more videos
by this person on YouTube.
