VISITING COBA

7 SEPTEMBER 2015

McGUINNESS/PARKER

Started the day with a zip wire,
then rappelling down a rock face . . .

. . . then down another wire right across a big lake . . .

Went to COBA, an ancient Mayan city in the jungle,
a two-hour drive from the hotel. Richard went up all 129 steps;
I went halfway.

Received a Mayan blessing and detox which translated meant
half-eaten by bugs while we stood still in the jungle for too long.

Next was a swim in a XENOTE/CENOTE,
which was freezing cold, then lunch.

Next was a wander round the temple ruins.
A long day, but a very good one.

I don't normally buy pictures,
but the day with dolphins, etc. and the day in the jungle I did.
They were overpriced, but we couldn't take pics and do it.
R did video me rappelling down the rock face. We call it absailing in UK.
[This video will be added to the site some time in December.]

I did get a couple of bug bites in the jungle and was so glad
I had the anti-itch pen that Andréa gave me last year.
The one on my knee kept swelling, so R crushed a PIRITON,
made a paste and put it directly on the bite; that worked very well.

Last day today; fly home tomorrow. We have to be out of our room at midday,
then take a private taxi to the airport. That is a freebie cos I complained
that the rep with us on the dolphin trip ignored the fact we told her
R was deaf as he can't wear hearing aid in the sea and
we were constantly having to ask what was happening.
I think in a party of 20 somethings,
she thought we were just along for the boat trip.

Cheers, everyone!

8 SEPTEMBER:

Just waiting for our taxi to the airport; sad, happy sort of wait.
Sad the holiday is over, happy to get back to my comfortable rut.
10.5-hour flight takes off at 6.55 tonight, then a three-hour drive home.
It's going to be a long day.

We had a fantastic holiday and I would go back again

That's all there is . . . just happy memories now.

What's next for our Jackie & Richard?
Be sure to check out THEIR NEXT ADVENTURE
