DAY ONE

16 JUNE 2013

Anim

LOOE: This is Looe, seven miles from us.
It could be any of the villages along the coast;
they all seem to cling to the cliffs.

Ph

The hills are so steep the change in pressure gets your ears.
I told Tom to slow down or we would get the bends.
Just as well this is a surf area, not a dive area.

This is Looe the first night we arrived (taken with my good camera).
The road runs behind the trees at the top of the pic
all the way down to the bridge.
The town centre was a short walk past the bridge.

Ph

FUNNY: Thought this was good

Ph

Ph

THE MAIN STREET: This is the main street in Looe;

Ph

all roads go upward from this or into the sea

Renor in front of jail/museum;
we couldn't get in for a visit because of too many steps.

Ph

More of the jail and a little street.

Ph

THE BEACH: As you can see. it was too cold for beach games

Ph

THE LANGUAGE: They have their own language here,
not a dialect. A tourist is a grockle.

Ph

A HOUSE ON AN ISLAND: It has a bridge to get to it and a garage on the main road;

Ph

it has just been sold for 1.5 million [pounds, I assume,
which equals 2,357,539.55 USD, 2,465,159.60 AUD,
2,401,600.10 CAD, 2,946,113.83 NZD & 1,764,173.75 EUR]

Ph

The tide is out at the moment

Ph

Ph

NEWQUAY: Surfers' paradise

Ph

Everyone seemed to have an OZ accent and call us dudes.
Tide is out; no surfing now.

Anim

SUE FORRESTER:
Just had a lovely few minutes wandering with you, Jackie . . .
wonder if you will bump into Lizzie Hurtt who spends half her summer
(I think!) in Cornwall. Hey, Lizzie, are you there???

Anim

NEAL SKRENES:
WOW, great story and pictures. You know, even in the $2,357,539.55 house,
I imagine I'd hear you complaining about all the noise
the grockles are making on the beach!
[He's got THAT right!]

Anim

LIZZIE HURTT:
Ah . . . not at the moment. I'm going down in about ten days. though.
My place is a few miles up the coast from Newquay at Polzeath -
the 'other' surfers' paradise.

I'm looking forward to it and hoping desperately that whatever the weather, we'll get some good surf!

Where Jackie & Tom are staying looks absolutely wonderful. Shirley & Len Gates used to holiday
in Cornwall, too, just a couple of villages up from me at Port Gaverne.
