THE MISSOURI 3 + 1
MAY 2006

SOME INFORMATION & COMMENTARY FROM
VIOLETTA ARGUETA, PRESIDENT OF CRUSA:

The intermediary who obtained these furkids took them to Dr. Deanna Tolliver, a WONDERFUL vet in Missouri and rescue hero who has saved and turned over to rescue groups like CRUSA hundreds of Missouri mill dogs; not just Cairns, but also Pugs, Papillons, Westies, etc. The number of Cairns she has helped since January 2004 exceeds 200. Dr. Tolliver contacted Shell Lewis, CRUSA's VP of Foster Homes and the planning of how we would transport them and where they would be fostered began.

At Dr. Tolliver's, each dog receives a rabies shot, distemper-parvo combo shot, bordatella shot, is spayed/neutered, has his/her teeth cleaned and extracted as necessary, is tested for heartworm & brucellosis, is treated for parasites with Drontal Plus (mill dogs always test positive) and for earmites, gets his/her first heartworm preventive & Frontline, and also has a first bath in YEARS and a first nail trim (the nails of mills dogs will often curl from not having been cut in YEARS). They are also quarantined for seven days.

This time we had more time to ship Varikennel crates to Dr. Tolliver's for their transport.

A VERY BIG "THANK YOU" TO DR. TOLLIVER & HER STAFF!

Donation information and links are available on the last page of this site . . . please consider helping these and the many other Cairns in need. TIA.

Rescued as puppymill surrenders in Missouri, Scott Lubert & Greg Martin will pick up these pups on Saturday, 6 May, driving to Missouri from Wisconsin, and returning on the same day.

(Their trip will begin at 5:45 a.m., when they meet at Danny's Café for breakfast with Andréa & VetteMan, and to pick up two crates.)

Hi, everyone! Shell Lewis here. Following is "anything" and "everything" regarding this weekend's transport & delivery of our latest round of mill pups . . . Foxy, Peaches & Zoe.

FRIDAY - 5 MAY

Stacey Wagers is picking up our three mill dogs from Dr. Tolliver in Waynesville, Missouri. She will get there between 7:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Stacey . . . thanks again for the important role you're playing in this transport! Aside from doing a great service for the dogs, you're shaving four hours of time off Scott and Greg's trip. We greatly appreciate your help!

SATURDAY - 6 MAY

Our transport team of Scott & Greg will be leaving Kenosha, Wisconsin around 6:30 a.m. and arrive at the Petsmart in Florissant, Missouri in the 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. timeframe.

At Petsmart, first-time foster parents Shelley & Paul Joyce will pick up Peaches and Scott & Greg will get Zoe & Foxy to bring back to Wisconsin.

A conservative estimate is that Scott & Greg will get back to Kenosha around 7:00 p.m. Once home . . .

Pam Simpson in Racine, Wisconsin will be fostering Zoe, who is two years old. Pam . . . I'll leave it up to you & Scott & Greg whether you want to get her Saturday evening or Sunday morning.

Zoe

Foxy is going to be fostered by first-time foster mom, Pat Messer in Jefferson, Wisconsin. Scott & Greg will overnight her (Foxy, not Pat) on Saturday and then Scott's sister will meet Pat at a pre-arranged location in Ft. Atkinson, Wisconsin on Sunday. Pat & Scott . . . Can I suggest that the two of you work out the time/location of that hand-off as I'm unfamiliar with the area.

Ph

Peaches

I think that's it for now. Dr. Tolliver needs to brief me on the pups and then we'll determine "who" will get "whom". Separately, I'll be emailing all the foster parents with information on any follow-up vetting that needs to be done.

A special WELCOME to our first-time foster parents . . . Pat Messer & her daughter . . . and Shelley & Paul Joyce. We're thrilled to be working with you!
