TOFFEE BARS
(WITH A TWIST)

7 DECEMBER 2022

As I'm perusing YT videos for things to bake,
I see something called "Christmas Crack".
NOT a very prepossessing title, but I HAD to check it out.

Turns out to be the same recipe for TOFFEE BARS that I used to make,
but with saltine crackers as a base. I dunno . . .
altho I DO like saltines with unsalted butter and sugar . . .

NAILED

. . . I decided to make my recipe, but use half saltines and
half Nilla™ wafers, my usual base, for comparison.

It's a work of abract art . . .

You will notice that I added 1 tsp of baking soda to a normal recipe;
this is to make the base less likely to damage your teeth when the toffee hardens.
(When I madee [pea]nut brittle, I did the same, for the same reason.)

THIS is what happens when you stir in the vanilla extract/ bourbon
and the baking soda . . .

. . . smoothed out . . .

NAILED

. . . since I can't use pecans, I used some Nilla™ wafer crumbs
left over from a previous baking project . . .

NAILED

. . . and I cut the bars while they were still warm . . .

, , , altho I let them cool until the chocolate was hard before taking them apart
and storing them.
