On 11 May 1991, we, and much of the neighborhood, were able to watch the Great Horned Owl juvenile on its first flight.
It spent a lot of time on the air conditioner, watching us watch it

One of the Great Horned Owl Family

Soon after the juvenile was confident about flying, the family left. The nest, which had been occupied by squirrels the previous year, fell apart. None of the owls have since returned to our neighborhood.
We were left with more than memories and photographs, however. This owl pellet was deposited on our patio steps, while one of the owls perched on our tv antenna. We still have it, and we treasure it as a momento of a once-in-a-lifetime birding experience.
Summer/Fall 2004 - The hawks that nested and raised two young ones across the street were not as cooperative as the owls had been, and we were not able to get any photographs.
16 December 2007 - In the early morning hours, in the aftermath of a snowstorm, I heard and replied to two Great Horned Owls. Perhaps they are again nesting in our area, as yet another semi-undeveloped area nearby is being cleared for housing.
