Melissa is going to try to work with the shiest of the three and try to gain some confidence. In spite of their fear, she hasn't seen a curled lip, hasn't heard a snarl, and they seem really sweet. Or perhaps, just grateful for a chance to be a real dog and not just a sire-on-demand or a likewise bitch.

We all want to thank you for the outpouring of support from all around the world. We have received $400 through PayPal and many have said they are sending checks. We have had offers to foster and adopt from across the country. It is so wonderful to know that for every man who bred (and bred and bred) these dogs, there are hundreds of people like you

Everyone have a great weekend and send the poor scared Arizona Airedales some Zen as they are further traumatized today by being bathed and groomed, stuck by needles of various types as we draw blood and microchip them and, oh yes, don't forget the old thermometer up the rear - Jack's personal favorite.

The dogs are safely in kennels in Prescott, Phoenix & Ajo. I got a chance to meet a few of them while I was in Phoenix. They don't appear to have any human aggression in them at all. They also didn't have any problem with Melissa's dogs. We tested the two I delivered to Ajo with a cat and they were fine.

After they are all neutered and spayed, they will be ready to be fostered. It will be a real project to get them to the adobtable stage. They have never had a collar on, much less a leash. It was very interesting trying to shave them . . . a work of art, they aren't! They haven't ever been inside a house, so obviously aren't housebroken. I doubt they have had any human contact at all . . . someone put the food down and left, or shouted at them to get away. They startle at the slightest noise, or if you take a step toward them, and run. They are basically feral dogs. The boldest are already coming around . . . one even comes to his name and has learned that ear scratching is a good thing. It will take someone with a lot of patience and time to work with them.

The BLACKS look just like Airedales and have the same personality, just coal black. One had a patch of white hair in the middle of his chest (just like some black & tans) and one had a sprinkling of white hair through the black, but otherwise all black. I delivered a couple of the black males to the kennel in Ajo and I am really fond of them.

I have another Airedale coming in this weekend that I have to foster, but I may take one of the BLACKS after I get her adopted if I can't find another foster home.

The woman who developed the Black Airedale strain claims that she did it through selective breeding and has what she says is DNA evidence to prove it. Others believe that there must be a Labrador in the woodpile somewhere. Whether or not they are 100% pure Airedale, they have the conformation, coat and temperament of Airedales.

The official position of the Airedale Terrier Club of America is that they are mixes. They cannot be registered with the American Kennel Club and we cannot request any reimbursement from the national rescue treasury.

Because of this, adtlovershome list members conducted a fundraiser and raised $2179.40
