BEAU IS NEUTERED . . .

6 NOVEMBER 2009

On 9 November, Paula writes:

On Friday, Beau was neutered; on Saturday morning I went to pick him up. I had noticed a hard lump on the side of his neck and asked Rich (kennel owner's son) to keep an eye on it. On Saturday afternoon as Jim & I were driving Abby to her new home (which went famously), I received a call from Chris Olson. The lump had exploded. It was an old injury that had abcessed. They shaved the area and cleaned him up and he was running a temp. We got him started on antibiotics now. I was there tonight and we cleaned the area again, took his temp, which was still high, and got some pills down his throat.

On 12 November, Paula writes:

Poor Beau had to go back to the vet yesterday and get another round of cleaning of his old war wound and then it was noted of his kennel cough. Well, unfortunately, now the rest of the group has kennel cough. We have them isolated in Chris' training room so unfortunately she won't be able to hold her training classes either. They were all vaccinated and have been at the kennel with no issues until Beau got there; a strain that is not covered by vaccination evidently. Beau is very much under the weather. I hope in a few days he will be coming around and feeling like a terrier.

The next day:

He was vaccinated at the shelter. He has it really bad. I have never seen such junk come out of a dog's nose. The plan was to bring Lucy & Cheyenne here to be fostered this weekend. Hopefully in 10 days they will be able to be here for Thanksgiving.

He has improved on lead. Right now, due to the injury on his neck, I have him in a harness and he walks great in that. But when they went to shave his neck at the vet office on Tuesday, he went ballistic. So they had to sedate him to get that done. Oh joy when we go to groom him.
