BOSCO IN WISCONSIN

27 AUGUST 2009

On Thursday afternoon, the Safe Harbor Humane Society in Kenosha called Andréa about a one-year-old intact male Airedale brought in by a woman who "got him out of a newspaper", and who would not go outside . . . she'd been carrying him outside for two weeks, and finally realized she couldn't continue to do this.

I put a callout to Wisconsin Airedale rescue folks, and Paula Lackner of ATRA made contact with Safe Harbor; arrangements to have him picked up on Saturday. He was given a HW test, a rabies shot, a bordatella shot and a microchip.

On Saturday morning, Neal & I picked up Rocco. Literally. This dog WOULD NOT WALK OUT OF HIS CAGE. HE WOULD NOT WALK THROUGH THE SHELTER. HE WOULD NOT WALK ON THE PARKING LOT. HE. WOULD. NOT. WALK. PERIOD. And he weighed almost 100 pounds, I swear, although several pounds of that weight was haire!

We drove for 2.5 hours to Fond du Lac;
for most of that time, he remained standing up.
When he finally lay down, I made the misteak of
looking at him and praising him, so he stood back up.
I left him alone after that, and he spent the last
15 minutes of the drive lying down,
with his head at rest.

We were ahead of schedule, so had breakfast at Schreiner's,
where we'd arranged to meet FosterMom Evi.

We speculated for a while about how a lovely dog
like this could have been so traumatized . . .

Ph

. . . . (this is what he looks like from the other end) . . .

Ph

. . . and he finally came to the front of the crate
for a looksee.
