HERSCHEL'S SURGERY GOES WELL

3 MARCH 2012

Sherry writes:

It is now 1:40 p.m. Herschel is just out of surgery and into the recovery area! It was a very long & difficult surgery. Dr. McKee did the worst hip first. I was informed that Dr. McKee is a perfectionist and had difficulty getting everything just right. He will call me back in a few hours to give me an update which I will give to all of you. The vet tech said Herschel is very, very drunk right now! Probably a good thing. . . any of you have ever had BONE SURGERY knows it is the most painful thing to go through! Pray for Herschel, everyone; he needs it!

On 4 March, Sherry writes:

Good morning everyone. I just called the Clinic to check on our boy Herschel. He didn't eat this morning, but the pain management is going well. The tech said that he slept well last night and is resting quietly this morning. She said is so cute . . . and keeps popping his head up looking for his mommy. Prayers are working! Herschel says THANK YOU!

On 5 March, Sherry writes:

On my way out the door to the Dr.
I'll write later today. Dr. McKee called . . .
Herschel is doing awesome!
He is actually weight-bearing on the new leg!
Pain is being managed well . . . . More later!

On 6 March, Sherry writes:

Sorry it has taken sooo long to report today.
Yes, Herschel is doing well.
The doctor had to special order a plate for his other hip.
Actually, he got two plates, just in case.
Herschel is a BIG BOY and is still growing.

The worst hip was done first.
He is still "thinking" about the plate he used;
he might replace it to a larger one, but not sure yet.

Tomorrow I will either get to bring him home for two weeks, or not.
Dr. McKee is really, really in "like" with this boy! Too funny.

Herschel's pain level is well-controlled.
He is weight-bearing, and walking without assistance.
He is doing well and eating just fine.
His biggest problem is that he wants out of his kennel
and to be in Dr. McKee's office with him all the time.
If he is in his run too long a time, HE complains!
Keep praying for him . . . I certainly appreciate it.
