HERSCHEL UPDATE

13 APRIL 2012

Sidney writes:

Herschel is doing great.
Dr. McKee took him outside
Friday morning for a
short walk & potty.
He was very impressed with
Herschel's progress;
he would take a couple of steps
and then bunny hops, and again.
He had staples removed
on Friday afternoon.
On Monday he starts
physical therapy again
for two weeks.

Sally, with whom many of you
have spoken at the clinic,
just loves Herschel.
She goes back to hug, kiss
& greet him several
times a day. They are all
catering to his every whim
& need. In other words,
the Airedale is ruling the roost!

It will be a while before
this clinic forgets the Airedale
named Herschel and the
people around the world
who helped him!

Courtesy of Steve at the clinic,
here are photos of Herschel
in his fashionable AireLion cut.
As you can see,
he is bearing his weight on
ALL FOUR LEGS!!
In the fourth photo
you can see the suture line
where the staples were removed.

After he is through with therapy,
he will return home until
Dr. McKee discharges him.

Because it is important that
Herschel not jump until
he is completely healed,
we purchased sturdy steps
to assist him in & out of the car.
When Herschel comes back home,
Sherry & Judi will teach
him to use the steps to get
in & out of the car.

A special shout-out
to Judi, who has been at
Sherry's side &
Herschel's side
every step of this journey.
Once Herschel is completely healed,
he won't need any assistance.

You can see the steps HERE.

The best news is that Herschel has a home waiting for him.
Sheri Syverson is a longtime SWAT adopter;
Herschel will be her fifth Airedale.
She sadly & unexpectedly lost her Airedale, Sammy,
in December 2011 and was devastated.
She has been watching Herschel's story
with the rest of the world and finally decided
that she & Herschel needed each other. We agree!
Herschel needs a loving mommy who will let him be the spoiled
only child who doesn't have to share his treats
& toys with any other dog.
Sheri needs the love & laughter of an Airedale in her life again.

Once Herschel is discharged sometime in May,
we will figure out how to get him from
southern New Mexico to northern Arizona.

Again, we all want to thank you so much for helping Herschel.
Airedale lovers all over the world donated an amazing $6,690.00.
For those of you who are interested,
here is a breakdown of the costs to repair Herschel's hips
(with the estimate for his remaining boarding/PT costs).

Surgery #1 = $2,299.33
Surgery #2 = $2,357.56
X-rays = $498.00
PT & Boarding thru 4/11/12 = $926.12
Anticipated PT & Boarding thru release = $860.00
Petloader Steps = $226.97
PayPal Fees = $120.23
TOTAL COSTS = $7,288.21

Again, thank you from all of us for helping Herschel.

Sherry Scara has been dealing with some serious health issues during all of this.
Sherry is going to have surgery next week.
She has been diagnosed with Biliary Dyskinesia,
severe Fibromyalgia and Epstein Barr.
Please send some of that powerful AireZen Sherry's way
to help her heal as well as Herschel has done.

Re: "The best news is that Herschel has a home waiting for him."

That IS the best news, on top of the fact he's healing so well. Kudos to all involved in this wonderful recovery story and am continuing to send powerful AireZen, healing thoughts & prayer Herschel's way that he remains on this upward path towards health.

Also sending extra special doses of the same Sherry Scara's way too!
