On Day Ten, it seems like Thistle
has jumped forward in her recovery schedule.
Her accomplishments &
her attitudes have, somehow,
advanced an unexpected magnitude.
Physically, she is remarkably
more capable. Mentally,
she is graciously more accepting,
tolerant & trusting.
While her pain management medications have been reduced substantially,
she easily accepts the regimen of moist heat, massage,
range-of-motion flexing of her hip & ice following exercise.
On her WalkAbouts, she is truly a four-legged girl again.
Gingerly, but all four legs move in the normal sequence for the first time;
very rarely regressing to a three-legged motion.
She uses her leg cautiously, but normally. Day Ten!
After massage therapy
Keeping a watchful eye
Today is the first day she allowed the hip to be massaged fully.
She remained quiet & calm throughout.
She trusts Carolyn, without reservation, on any initiative whatsoever.
Developing a bit of "cabin fever" or maybe wanderlust,
she took to her dilatory residence, her crate, for a change of scene.
Without ceremony, she rose up from the security of her bed,
which is her safe zone where everything is provided for her,
and just walked off to the crate where she spent
a few peaceful hours in new surroundings.
No requests or commands were issued, she just wanted a change.
We, of course, held our breath and followed her closely,
but to her it was just nothing at all; just something she wanted to do.

Brava, Thistle. Brava!
