PUPPIES' FIRST OUTSIES 21 SEPTEMBER 2010

On 17 September, Gayle writes: Picked up Holly & the pups this morning after Dr. Johnson did all their exams; all came through just fine. Jodi bathed Holly so she is all clean to stay with us until 27 September. She also advised us that Holly will bite any dog that comes close to her babies, so we made sure all our fur kids were outside to get her into our basement and set her all up in a very comfy way. Hey, sounds like the Ritz, right? Worked out a system to put ribbons on their necks to identify them when I figure out who is who. On 21 September: Puppies in a big bowl to carry outside for first fresh air. Mama loves to be held . . . . . . she gets lonely taking such good care of her babies. KATIE KNEESEL: OMG . . . tooo cute! And yes, I said AWWWWWW. What a good momma she is. BETTE BOYERS: I WANT A BIG BOWL OF PUPPIES!!!! BARBARA MAXWELL: So much love in evidence! CAIRNDADDY: Just adorable. SUSAN HENDERSON: About 15 years ago, we brought our beloved six-week-old Kerry Blue Terrier -Beary Fitz Kerry -- home from the breeder. The breeder had put a different colored ribbon on the neck of each of the eight pups from two litters so that he could distinguish the pups as he evaluated their personalities and made notes concerning the progress of each of them. He recommended that we keep the ribbon as a reminder of how small Beary had once been. We still have that green ribbon, which was a little too small to fit around my wrist. Beary grew up to be a 40-pounder with a 16" neck. It was so sad to lose him to cancer when he was only 11 years old. But adopting from CRUSA filled the gap. When the Rolo 3+ pups are outplaced in due course, it would be nice to give their non-fur parents the ribbons as momentos.
