ROSE MOVES ON

25 MARCH 2011

Today I brought Rose to be with Pam, Steve, Molly & Harley Simpson,
who will be her Foster Family for as long as need be.

Introdutions outside went fine; one little growl from Rose,
but that was all. Then we trooped inside.

Nosey Rosey lived up to her name and investigated the entire house,
finding a few pieces of dog food in the kitchen,
her two beds in the living room,
and just in general getting to know her way around.
More than likely, with her hardened corneas,
she moves about more by smell than by sight.

Did I bring my camera?
OF COURSE I DID!
Did I forget to take any pictures?
OF COURSE I DID!

I'm hoping Pam will take some.

Pam writes:
Rose is here and things are going well thus far

Her Nosey Rosie nickname fits her well.
She is still nosing into things.
We have gone into the back yard, front yard,
and the first floor of the house.
We have yet to go upstairs or downstairs.
Soon as she has inspected every square inch of the first floor,
I will take her downstairs.

There were a couple of growls from her at the first intro,
but thus far things have gone well.
Hopefully, they will remain that way.
Molly did do a running-away play-bounce at her,
but am not sure she saw that.
She had trouble getting up the steps from
the back door to the kitchen, but she will get them next time.

Will keep you informed how things are going,
but she seems to be adapting well and so do our two,
though Molly did NOT roll on her back for her -
which is VERY ATYPICAL of Molly.
She rolls on her back to EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE -
puppies, babies, you name it, she rolls on her back for them,
Harley does not. But that meeting seemed to be okay too.
We are being cautious, however. I am trying to get her to rest -
she is a senior, after all. And she has been nosing into things for over an hour.

She did wag her tail a lot at Steve when he came home.
I will be taking her downstairs soon so she can nose around down there.
She napped in her bed that was at your house,
Steve covered her with a blankey and she took a little snooze.
She does love those beds. She has now slept in BOTH of them.

A few hours later:

Pups are having their first meal now.
We put up the baby gate in the kitchen.
Nosy Rosy is in there. Molly is on the bed where she always eats
and Harley in the dining room. All peaceful thus far.
No table scraps for her - RIGHT!!!!
You know, she just sits there when you are eating, WATCHING every bite!

Harley did a HUGE bark and play bow at her. She did not respond.

The next day, Pam writes:

We baby-gated off the living room/dining room area and she slept in there in her own bed(s). She was fine. She was ready for sleep.

She ate well this a.m. too. Of course, she always eats well. I just have to chuckle - each time WE eat anything or even ENTER the kitchen, she gets there as quickly as possible and stands guard, just in case anything might fall on the ground. Never have our floors been so free of kibble (Harley is a MESSY eater and kibble gets everywhere). She does clean-up - Hoover could be her nickname!

We'll probably just gate her like we did overnight when we leave for a while today. I am sure she will be fine. I sure wish it would warm up a bit--not that SHE minds the cold at all), but they could all be outside a bit. I think the adjustment would be a bit easier outside. Harley so wants her to play. I doubt that is going to happen!

A few minutes later:

Miss Rose just climbed into one of the big dog beds and pee'd in it. Am sure she was claiming the space as hers. And Molly just did her roll for her, so that is over now, and pack order is established. I told Rose NO NO about that peeing! The bed is in the washer right now, so maybe whatever smell was on there will be gone. I will not keep it in the living room anymore (where both her beds are) at any rate.

She is doing really well, I think actually. She has got to be so confused.

Girl does love her food.

And later that day . . .

She RAN and greeted us when we got home!
