LEROY FLIES EAST . . . NOT

21 MAY 2017

Shell writes:

He's flying to Chicago this Sunday with Bill Schumacher.
Bill is flying out on an 11 a.m. flight . . .
meeting someone at LAX . . .
and turning around and flying right back home.

ANITA CHAROCHAK:
Great news!

Anim

PATRICIA YARNOT:
This is amazing news! Bill is a Cairn Saint.

Anim

JACKIE IKE:
Ohhhh . . . that's so wonderful! Thank you, thank you, thank you Bill!

Anim

NEAL SKRENES:
That's really wonderful news. There are a lot of good people in the world.

Anim

KATHY WALKER:
This is great news! I am sooooo glad Bill will be with Leroy. I love this little dog already just from watching his video in the shelter. I want him to have a great rest of his life. Much thanks to the Fabulous Flying Bill for being there in the sky for Leroy and so many other Cairns. Oh, and, of course, thanks to Shell and her friend in California who rescued and is fostering Leroy. Thanks to ALL!

Anim

JACKIE PARKER
in ENGLAND:
I'm so happy for him. It was such a close call and he was so sad; now he has a chance of love and happiness. Thank you, Cairn Rescue, on behalf of this wee boy.

Anim

JEAN LAWSON:
Wish you the best, Leroy!

Anim

BJ ISAACS:
Woohoo! Leroy won my heart and I am so thankful for everyone who saved this baby!

When I first saw him on the FB shelter page, I wanted him OUT and when realizing we couldn't get him at first, I was not a happy camper. But ever so glad he's out now!

On 21 May, Shell writes:

Bill is at MDW (Midway, alternative to O'Hare) now waiting on his flight.
An agility pal of mine who lives in Hollywood is picking up Leroy
in Huntington Beach and will meet Bill at LAX.
He has two hours between his arrival and departure back to Chicago,
but lots to do in those two hours.

Bill is under strict orders to take pics,
as is everyone else involved in today's extravaganza
(it took five people to get one little dog on its way).

Anim

KATHY WALKER:
Thinking of Bill & Leroy today and praying for safe travels. Hope the day will be uneventful for you both. Please let us know how it all goes.

Thank you, Bill, and sending CRUSA love to Leroy!

Anim

MARSHA AARONS:
Have a safe journey, Bill & Leroy. You always do an amazing job, Bill. Truly a rescue angel. Shell, you also are a rescue angel . . . always willing and able to save a poor soul like Leroy from wherever they are.

Later the same day,
Shell writes:

Bill's flight arrived
on time at LAX,
but he still taxiing.
He will probably not make
his return flight and will need
to take a later flight;
just sort of keeping our fingers
crossed that he has
no problems getting back.
Luckily my friend in California
who is meeting him with Leroy
is going to hang until we know
for sure that everybody
is on the plane and
getting back to Chicago tonight.

This is my friend with Leroy
earlier in the day when she
picked him up.
Judith is a top obedience
competitor with her
Cairn terrier, Thomas.

Anim

KATHY WALKER:
Thanks so much for the update. Fingers and paws crossed here. And Shell, it is obvious you have some wonderful friends who are devoted to helping animals. Kudos to all!

Then comes the . . . FINAL LEROY UPDATE OF THE DAY

To say this has been a stressful ordeal is an understatement.
Leroy is too long for the underseat carrier.
He will be heading back to his Huntington Beach foster home for now;
sometime this week I hope to get him to Chicago via cargo.

Anim

BOB SHIRE:
Oh man, that's ridiculous. He can't be THAT big. Give a rescue dog a break.

Anim

KATHY WALKER:
I'm so sorry, Shell. Have a glass of wine and chill out. You will live to fight another day!

Anim

NEAL SKRENES:
Oh, what a disappointment after all that work. Yes, he'll get to Chicago eventually.

Anim

MARILYN ROYLE:
Shell, thanks to you & Bill & Leroy's foster family & to all the California folks who continue to work on sending Leroy to the Midwest. I am hoping and praying for Leroy and for all involved.

Anim

BJ ISAACS:
Big time bummer.

Anim

KIM CRONIN:
I have lived in southern California a few times and I have to tell you that to drive from Hollywood to Huntington Beach to LAX is no small feat.ÊMajor kudos to your friend for that kind of commitment to rescue. She's awesome.

Anim

MAUREEN SCOTT
in CANADA:
Poor Leroy! He can't seem to catch a break!

Anim

ANITA CHAROCHAK:
I agree, he can't be that big! I feel for you Leroy!
