On 14 October, Frances writes:

Jake's doing well. He is getting used to being crated and loves to play with my other dogs. He's also eating well and is getting plenty of TLC! My nieces & nephew (ages 3, 5, 7, & 8) were over a couple of nights ago, and he was great with them. He even laid down next to my seven-year-old niece while she petted him. I think he will be an easy placement and the right person or family will be very happy to adopt him!

On 18 October:

Jake is back after getting all his veterinary needs met. He's been neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested, vaccinated, given a fecal. I will pick up his health certificate when he's ready to fly. I will give Jake a heartworm preventative tomorrow when he's feeling better. He's sleeping quietly now after his big day!

And on 18 November:

Jake is in his new home in Oklahoma City, where he is very well-taken-care-of and loved. He sits on a window seat in the front room and looks out at the front yard & neighborhood. He's only alone four hours at a time and has canine neighbors (Westie about his age) with whom he has frequent play dates!

Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed,
All nicely tucked in my warm new bed.
I'd like to open my baggage
Lest I forget,
There is so much to carry -
So much to regret.

Hmm . . . Yes there it is, right on the top -
Let's unpack Loneliness, Heartache and Loss,
And there by my leash hides Fear and Shame.
As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave -
I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain.

I loved them, the others, the ones who left me,
But I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me.
Will you add to my baggage?
Will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things
And take me right back?

Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage,
To never re-pack?
I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see,
But I do come with baggage -
Will you still want me?
