	One-year-old Henry (male) and three-year-old Randi (female) are two darling terrier mixes who just arrived to northern Illinois from the rural south. Sadly, both have tested positive for heartworm disease and face a long road of treatment and recovery. Luckily, their prognosis, while guarded, is good.
Heartworm treatment consists of a series of deep intramuscular injections given at 30-day intervals which can be very difficult for the dog, not to mention difficult on a rescue group's funds as it is an expensive treatment. Read more about Heartworm HERE. During the 30 days after the injections, the dog must remain quiet and sedentary, allowed out only for potty breaks . . . not an easy thing to ask of a young dog.
