I was able to get out to Dixons Creek again this weekend. Continued with more yard work - removing all the creepers from the house today.

Removing creepers on house

House is empty of mementos. Dogs not around.
Yard denuded. Different place now.

Raking leaf litter from drought and heat of the fire

Things are getting back to normal. Fires have settled down. Power has been restored after 11 days. Lots of work crews along the roadways in the valley, clearing trees, and repairing fences.

Sue had a bit of a bad turn on Thursday. She has torn some muscles in her ribcage and had trouble breathing, to the point where Bill had to call an ambulance. It took 45 minutes to arrive, and by that time, she was able to regain her breathing again. She is much better now. So she is on light duties . . . as light as they can be on a rural property.

Focus is now turning to wildlife rescue, as the animals are coming out of the burnt bush looking for food. Wombat Bend has been set up as a depot for wildlife rescue as a place to drop off animals, and a base for food distribution.

Burnt paws

I have since been informed that, unfortunately, one of these swamp wallabies had to be euthanized as the burns to his paws were too extensive.

Today is a day of national mourning here in Australia. We look forward to the rebuilding/renewal phase, after Australia's largest national disaster.
