When word of a great deal at Utila Lodge arrived in our email boxes,
I encouraged Neal to take advantage of it.
Two weeks of diving, for the price of one week as a diver
and one week as a non-diver.
Because of a SNAFU, he also received a single room at no extra cost,
and the flight from Miami to Utila was included.
What's not to like?

As those of you who know us know,
we each have an aging parent,
so the best thing for him to do is travel when he can;
we never know when either of us will be called on
to become a caretaker, as already happened earlier this year.
[See my two trips to Arizona this spring HERE]

Neal still hankers to swim with whale sharks,
which never happened during January's
DIVE UTILA WITH TEAM MANTA trip
[on view HERE], so he thought he'd try again.

So early (3:45 a.m.) on a NON-BLIZZARDY morning,
Neal donned his Lucky Diving Hat;
I dropped him off at the Milwaukee Airport just before
Hurricane Irene closed all airports on the East Coast.
Luckily, his flight was not affected; he connected in Miami
with the plane to San Pedro Sula,
where he had a four-hour wait for his plane to Utila.

Upon arrival, Neal writes:

I'm "King of the Resort" tonight - no other guests!

It'll be just me, the boat captain & Josh the Dive Master tomorrow a.m.;
maybe p.m., too. Other guests arriving tomorrow.

Going to do some close-up work -
they spotted seven seahorses today & some squid!

Last week was "Whaleshark Week" -
there they floated, completely surrounded by NO WHALESHARKS!
Good thing I planned on a two week stay!

Earlier, they had lots;
one supposition was a recent tropical storm, and lots of rain . . . .
[Maybe global warming is messin' up their schedules, too!]

I'm in the first room on the first floor;
about 15 feet from the dive shed and 20 feet from the dining hall.

Breakfast @ 6 a.m. tomorrow; boat leaving at 8 a.m.
We are taking the one farthest to the right in the webcam
(not the one we were on in January); for tomorrow anyway.

THE UTILA LODGE BOAT DOCK WEBCAM IS HERE
