GOOD NEWS, JACK!

Dierdre writes:
JACK IS BACK!
He is back producing his own blood sugar;
he registered 446 this morning.
His doctor started him on two units of insulin
and will increase it slowly until they feel he is stablized.
It looks like he is out of the woods and back to his old peppy self.
They will still keep him in the North Shore Animal League Hospital
for a few more days until they are sure he is stable
and it is safe for him to go to his new home in Virginia.
HURRAH!

So glad to hear Jack Is BACK! It looks like he had a FINE group of doggie & human friends behind him all the way. Just can't help but smile and have a few happy thoughts before I go to bed.

On 11 August, Dierdre writes:
With two units of insulin, Jack's sugar level dropped significantly yesterday, but by morning it was elevated to 500 again. They are upping the dosage to three units today. His sweet temperment is winning over the hospital staff and I know they are doing the best for him.

And on 12 August, Dierdre writes:
It looks good for Jack's release tomorrow. Jack is probably going to be good with a dosage of two to three units, twice a day. If everything is ok, he can be released tomorrow and travel on Sunday. It is imperitive that Nicky get his sugar level checked in one week. He's been on the wrong dosage for so long (first too little - none, really - and then too much to over-correct) that it may take some time to stabilize the dosage. Of course he should stay on a diabetic dog food.
I'm sorry he is leaving here after only one day home; he is such a sweet dog and my terrier loved playing with him.
