On 25 August, Violetta writes: Thanks to the funds raised in the FACEBOOK Auction, we were able to procure for Tracie the ear surgery she needed (only $350 had been raised; the surgery estimate was $1100) and she is now much more comfortable. The total cost came to $1120 after our 30% discount. What you see on her cheek is a drain that comes off on the tenth day, when the stitches will also be removed; she has to wear the cone of shame because the drain makes her itchy. Dr. Petranto said that everything inside her ear canal had atrophied and that she really didn't have any hearing left in that ear. The other ear is fine, so she isn't deaf. He managed to keep the cartilage intact, so her ear will stand up once everything heals, her hair will grow back and she'll look as if nothing had ever happened to her ear, except that if you look in the ear, it is shut.
